The newborn weeks are full of questions, and new parents get a lot of support from us. At Uptown Pediatrics on the Upper East Side, we start before your baby arrives with a prenatal visit. If you deliver at Mount Sinai, one of our doctors (usually Dr. Larsen, who does our hospital rounds) will meet your baby in the newborn nursery.

Our newborn and lactation team includes Dr. Larsen, Dr. Cohen, Dr. Alpert, Dr. Cerasoli, and Dr. Hoon, together with our nursing supervisor, Emese Szirtes, RN, IBCLC. Known to families as Nurse Mesi, she is a board-certified lactation consultant who helps new parents with breastfeeding right here in the office.

We care for parents too: we screen new moms for postpartum depression and anxiety, and Dr. Hoon, the psychiatrist on our team, can see new moms who are struggling.

What we offer

Prenatal visits

Meet the practice before your due date. Bring the prenatal visit form and your questions.

Mount Sinai nursery rounds

Dr. Larsen usually rounds at the Mount Sinai newborn nursery. Let us know you plan to deliver there and we'll meet your baby.

First checkup within days

Your baby's first visit is about 2 days after hospital discharge, then at 2 – 4 weeks.

Lactation support with Nurse Mesi

In-office breastfeeding help with a board-certified lactation consultant (IBCLC): latch, supply, pumping, and returning to work.

Newborn waiting area

Tell the front desk you have a newborn and we'll seat you away from sick children.

Postpartum mood support

We screen new moms for postpartum depression and anxiety, and Dr. Hoon, our psychiatrist, can see new moms who are struggling.

Flu shots for parents

During flu season, parents can get their own flu shot here too, which helps protect a baby too young for the vaccine.

Questions about newborn & lactation

When is my baby's first visit?

About two days after you're discharged from the hospital, then again at two to four weeks. Try to book newborn visits at the start of office hours to avoid backups.

What should I bring to the first newborn visit?

Your own insurance card, any hospital records, and a diaper bag with diapers, a change of clothes, and formula if you're not breastfeeding.

Do I have to pay separately for lactation help?

Lactation support is offered in-office. Coverage depends on your plan, so call our billing team at 866-371-6118 with questions.
